Discipline 07 · Sizes · briefs with tabs
Size is engineering.
Up to 315 cm.
Combi X-Ultra is now made in 3XL and in a single 4XL/5XL size, for waists up to 315 cm (124 in). A large brief is not a small brief drawn bigger: the chassis, the belt, the placement of the core and the tapes all have to be engineered again for the body that will wear it.
The range
From M to 4XL/5XL, size by size
Each size covers a range of waist measurements. The two new sizes extend the range far beyond the usual 2XL limit of most adult briefs.
| Size | Waist (cm) | Waist (in) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| M | 95–125 cm | 37–49 in | |
| L | 115–150 cm | 45–59 in | |
| XL | 130–175 cm | 51–69 in | |
| 2XL | 160–210 cm | 63–83 in | |
| 3XL | 190–279 cm | 75–110 in | new |
| 4XL/5XL | 254–315 cm | 100–124 in | new |
What changes when a brief gets bigger
Scaling up is a design problem
Belt
An ultra-stretch belt
Around a very large waist, tension has to be spread over a longer circumference. The ultra-stretch belt holds the brief without digging in, and keeps it closed when the wearer moves or sits.
Chassis
A proprietary cut pattern
The chassis of the 3XL and 4XL/5XL is cut to its own pattern, not enlarged from a 2XL: wider back and front panels, a crotch that still fits between the legs.
Core
Absorbency where it is needed
The core is placed for the larger body: liquid has to be taken in and stored at the point of release, not spread over a surface that grew with the chassis.
Tapes
Closures for a longer reach
Tapes and landing zone are sized for the larger circumference, so the brief closes securely and can be adjusted without tearing.
Machinery
A dedicated XL line
These sizes are produced on dedicated machinery: a standard line cannot simply run a wider product.
Range
Part of the X-Ultra line
The large sizes belong to Combi X-Ultra, our highest level of absorption: five drops plus, for day and night.
Choosing the size
Measure, then choose
- Measure around the waist at the level of the navel, and around the hips at their widest point.
- Use the larger of the two measurements and find it in the table above.
- If the measurement falls where two sizes overlap, the right size is the one that closes the tapes on the landing zone without strain.
For carers and professionals
Large sizes, same protection
People who need a 3XL or 4XL/5XL brief have long had to choose between a product that does not close and a product that does not hold. These sizes exist so that they no longer have to.
Questions
Frequently asked
Which sizes does Combi X-Ultra come in?
Combi X-Ultra is made in six sizes, from M to 4XL/5XL. The two largest — 3XL and 4XL/5XL — cover waists from 190 cm up to 315 cm (75 to 124 in).
How do I choose between two sizes?
Measure the waist at the navel and the hips at their widest point, and use the larger measurement. Where two sizes overlap, choose the one that lets the tapes close on the landing zone without strain.
Is a 5XL brief just a bigger 2XL?
No. The 3XL and 4XL/5XL sizes have their own cut pattern, an ultra-stretch belt, a core placed for the larger body and tapes sized for the longer circumference, and they are produced on dedicated machinery.
